Thats a thought. I wanted to be able to add electrical accessories. With 6 volt positive ground that becomes an issue. I have a tractor I restored and it is 6 volt positve ground and I never have a problem with it but then I don't want to add a CB either. Thanks for the note Bob |

Re: Bendix Spring Locked Up
After gettting the starter motor free I installed a new drive (Original Design) and reinstalled the starter. It turned the engine over a few times and locked up. I was able to free it up and remove the motor again. The starter terminal on the motor was hot as well as the post on the battery. I am not sure how to interprit that reaction. Could it mean that the starter motor is defective?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bob |

Re: Bendix Spring Locked Up
You may have a bent shaft from being jammed up.

Re: Bendix Spring Locked Up
How is your ring gear? if you have worn teeth it will get the starter gear locked in betwwen and you will not be able to turn the engine either way.

Re: Bendix Spring Locked Up
I have 2 modern starter drive break, both with less than 25 starts on them. They were both marked Made in India.
I bought a modern from Brattons and it has worked fine since this past january. My car is 12 Volts and the starter is modified for 12 Volts. You best bet is to convert your starter to 12Volts if you have 12 volts. |

The ring gear is damaged on the engaging side due to the problems I had with the first starter drive. Would that cause the starter to hang up? Bob |

Re: Bendix Spring Locked Up
I have checked the starter shaft and it is not bent but it does have about .100 in end play. I do not know if that is normal or not?????
