I can't get the head on my A to pop. Is there anyone who would lend me a head puller and puller studs? Odds are I will nver need one again and I can't see spending over a $100 to pick one up to use once....

I will pay round trip shipping! And if I damage the puller I will buy you a new one...

Bill & Dennis:

You can make head pullers using old spark plugs. Weld in a T handle made of 1/2 or 5/8 " bar stock into the plug with all porcelain broken out. Make two of them, screw them in firmly, they allows you to wiggle & manipulate the head and it come loose without two much trouble.

The vendors also sell this,

Loosen the head nuts, attach to your engine lift and "lift" the car by the head, Spray around the studs and tap aound the head with a plastic hammer or a wooden baseball bat. leave over night and see what happens in the morning.

Thanks for the idea David...but before I take the time to try and make my own puller I would have to spend the C-note!

Really hoping someone has one sitting in the corner of there garage I can borrow....

Thanks fellas!

Take two cylinders to bottom dead center. Remove those spark plugs. Push rope into cylinder through spark plug holes untill those two cylinders are full of rope. Crank over engine and head will pop off.

This works if the head isn't too stuck. I would suggest using the hand crank to avoid bending a rod just in case the head is really stuck.

if it is "REALLY STUCK" get you an old hatchet, drive it between the head and block-away from the valves, it this don't break the head loose, you will have a very nice fishing sinker

I am yet to have a head that would not come off. I purchased the Rainmaker Ron designed head puller about 7 years ago and it works great. I had some stubborn ones before that, but eventually they all came off. Rod

I and several members of the Fox Valley Region have successfully used "Gord's Easy Head Puller". It has worked on every head we asked it to pull.

It appears to be an email address, not a website.

FYI, I've seen Gord demonstrate his head puller. Nice item that works without damage.

I saw your write up when you posted it and made one to remove my stuck head. I used a 3/8" plate rather than the 1/2" plate,(just happened to have the 3/8"plate). It worked great. I think I have about 25 bucks in the puller.
Had 2 old plugs, 2, 1/2" X 6" Bolts, bought the rest of the bolts and nuts from
Lowes.
