Has any one used a wide 5 adapter from speedway motors to chuck up to a balancer and then bolt on your ford wide 5 wheel for balancing thanks Chris

Think it would be easier and beneficial if you mounted the drum/hub/wheel/ tire assembly and balanced. Heard way to many stories about a balance issue that never went away until the balanced the hub/drum.

I've bought the adapter from Speedway just for balancing... Worked fine.

I put new Dimondbacks on the 37 last yr and used the Speedway adapter. We Checked the adapter by it's self first and it was good. All I can say is it worked for me, no out of balance problems in 3000mi.

We had this discussion just before we switched to the new ford barn. Someone suggested taking your bearings and seal out and seeing if your local guy could balance the entire assembly. Im gonna try that. I may ask him to check the drum itself first then the entire assembly. Of coarse if its done that way you would want to mark your drum/wheel so if you ever removed the wheel you put it back in the same place.

i just got tires for my 36 truck and two tire shops told me to bring in a drum , so that they can balance them, also i found a shop that still dose them on the car i still need to balance the tires

Brendan, were you planning on having those tires shaved round? If so, they are balanced while on the machine? It is unbelievable the difference it made.

actually they are a lot better then then the old tires, i saw a thread on the HAMB about a place in Napa that shaves tires.

It seems that it would be great to have the tires balanced on the car if one could find a tire store that still had the equipment.

When this was posted last time I also mentioned www.innovativebalancing.com - once the Dynabeads are installed, including using tubes, you never have to balance your tires again.

Someone asked about what happens when you get a flat - I did have one one e tubeless rim off the rear of my 40 coupe. I told the tire place of the beads but he was skeptical of the outcome and asked me to watch. Repaired the tire no problem using an inside patch and the beads just rolled off to the side.

I bought a speedway adapter just for balancing too. Make sure to buy the lug nuts, though.... they are oddball size. I had to use Nylock nuts from Fastenal to get mine balanced. Worked fine, but would have been easier with real lug nuts.

An offer to the widefiveiacs: I made this offer a couple of years ago, never heard back from the taker...
I have a single wide 5 hub, rear from memory but my memory is nodamngood, with no drum...just the hub out to the lugs. It could presumably be spun and balanced and then would be a good adaptor for balancing your wheels, I think.
Utterly useless to me, free to a good home.
Pick up in NJ only, I am FAR too lazy to mail you the greasy lump.
Tell me if you want it, I'll leave it out on my front steps for you. Flourishing spider colony included, also FREE!!

I had a machine shop check the balance of the Speedway adapter and it was "right on". However the large nuts and bolts that attach it to the wide-five rim were up to .3 gram different from each other. You might look around for someone who would have an electronic balance (postal balance, high school or middle school) and grind them to equal each other since they may make a difference being so far from the center of the wheel.
