3th gear falls out
Hi,
when I drive down a very steeply street in 3th gear for more then about 10 seconds, then the 3th gear falls out into neutral. I can hold the shift lever, then it's not a problem. What exactly is the problem in the transmission ? Thanks Willi |

Re: 3th gear falls out
Take the tower off and fix or clean your detents. Not a hard job.

Re: 3th gear falls out
If the 2-3 gear is too loose on the shaft it slides on, then it can walk out of engagement.
If the flywheel cover isn't dialed in to be within .006" or less, then the input shaft won't be in a straight line with the crankshaft, and that can make it walk out of engagement. |

Re: 3th gear falls out
Tom is talking about the shims that go at the top of the flywheel housing. 2 bolts that are on top, also hold the throttle assembly. Check a parts catalogue. Search "jumping out of gear" or " align transmission".

Re: 3th gear falls out
Had one once where the gear was worn and it would twist itself out. This was where the direct drive engaged.
