30 Gas Tank Welting
I'm getting ready to repaint my 1930 Town Sedan with minimum disassembly. I was wondering if I could replace the tank to body welt by just loosening the tank clamps a bit - without removing the tank. Has anyone tried this?
Thanks, Bill

Re: 30 Gas Tank Welting
It will probably be pinned between the top of the tank and the filler strip that runs between the tank and the windshield. The bolts that hold those two parts together can be a real pain to remove.

Re: 30 Gas Tank Welting
Just pulled mine...my first model A and it wasn't a bad job, just takes a lttle time. Now putting it back and getting the welting set right may be a different story !

Re: 30 Gas Tank Welting
I agree that you cannot do the job effectively without R&R-ing the tank. I also think the way the welting is cut prior to installation, AND the type of welting you use matters greatly on the aestethics of the completed job.

Re: 30 Gas Tank Welting
Is not the welting painted body color? If I'm right then you can paint it in place.

Re: 30 Gas Tank Welting
no info? its great to have someone point out that something is important and to be aware but than to have no one answer with an further info seems kind of lame, i know it may seem minor but to those of us working on this very thing it is info that can help us from making incorrect choices .as you know its as easy to do the job right as it is to do it wrong, just like putting incorrect parts on, if a person knows the difference its all the same act just one is correct and the other is a mistake.
