Default Hubcap mystery

So a local club member picks up a freebie 19” Model A wheel. Some rust, but otherwise decent shape. But the wheel had this hubcap attached. Obviously not Ford, but what….?

Aftermarket cheap replacement cap. Probably from the later 30's, 40's, etc.

After-market cheap replacement cap. To avoid paying Royalties, the Ford name was never used. Same with Replacement Chev Hubcaps, the Bow-Tie logo was never used.

Reproduction 1950 Chevrolet Hubcap. To avoid paying Licence Fees, note that the Bow-Tie Emblem has been altered accordingly.

I believe there were also some with only the letter “B” or “F” in script.

My dad used to have a couple of sets of the "fool" ones years ago. Never knew it was to avoid paying Ford royalties.
