Default Rewiring 36 coupe

I am thinking about rewiring my 36 coupe as the wires are pretty frayed and hard as a rock.
I need to obtain a harness that has vivid coloring on the wires where I could follow a wiring schematic that has all the colors listed. The harness does not have to an exact reproduction or cloth covered or it could be. The main thing is a proper color coding and a scematic to match.
All sugestions are welcome.
The one concern I have is the main light switch at the end of the steering column. How difficult is it to install new wires ?
WHO HAS THE BEST SCHEMATIC ???

I want to say that I bought my harness from Sacramento ford.

Used vanpelts site for schematics/diagrams.
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...electrical.htm

Harnesses are color coded to factory color codes. Was fairly easy to put together.

I have bought harnesses from both Sacramento Vintage Ford and from Tyree Harris. Both came with diagrams which were easy to follow. I can't say which was the easiest though.

I have found Sacramento Vintage Ford wiring harnesses are as good as any in quality with nice easy to see coloured wires which are all numbered to the wiring diagram supplied. Most of their looms have the new headlight Bakelite/plastic switch plate already soldered to the wires. so you only need to fit the switch plate into the metal switch housing. I find they are a little slow to deliver sometimes, with not much communication from them, but worth the wait. Regards, Kevin.

The suppliers of wire harnesses use a process that laces the cloth outer covering over modern automotive wire, so you get the best of both worlds. One thing to keep in mind is the "harnesses" is actually made up of several separate harnesses'. You need to be sure you order all of the components. You also need to determine if your car is completely original or has modifications. An example would be the addition of a starter solenoid vs the floor starter. I'm not sure if Sacramento Vintage will make custom harnesses, but if not, there are other suppliers that will. Rhode Island Wiring Service is one.

I would also ask if the harness can be ordered to be set up for turn signals. In today's world turn signals are almost a must have.

I bought my wire harnesses for my 1937 Ford at Narragansett Reproductions. They include schematic drawing for your particular year / car and also installation drawings that almost anybody can follow. Very happy.

Sacramento Vintage made me a harness which was set up for turn signals. I bought all of the harnesses for my 34 truck from them so everything would go together properly. Their wiring guy Ron, maded the harnesses and was very helpful.

I have a cost question.....got a quote from Narransett wiring and it was about $750. where the Ford vendors have the original type harnesses and for what I need the cost is about $250 or so.... Why so much cost difference ?????

Another addition you may wish is for an electric fuel pump and switch.

May be pricing apples and oranges. Are you sure they are both pricing the same number of harnesses pieces? $250 sounds cheap for a full harness set to me, but I would have to check.

As an example (and these numbers may not be totally correct, it is just an example):

Early Ford Store Prices
68-14401 Dash Harness $99.50
81A-14405 Tail Light Harness $62.50
48-11647 Headlight Harness $99.50

So, there is around $260 for just the three main harness. Now you need pigtails to the tail and headlights, dash lights, leads to the interior light, etc. Does either kit contain the plug wiring, battery cables, etc. Lot to check out here.

I just did a quick count and I come up with 16 harness components (not including plug wires).

Headlight leads 13076 (2)
Horn leads 14436 (2)
Headlight Harness 11647 (1)
Starter lead 14431 (1)
Battery lead 144300 (1)
Dash Light leads 13710 (2)
Interior Light lead 14334 (1)
Interior Light lead 14335 (1)
Tail Light Harness 14405 (1)
Tail Light lead 13410 (1 or 2)
Crossover 14424 (0 or 1)
Dash Harness 14401 (1)

And there may or may not be other components included in one price quote over another.

I just looked up Narragansett prices from their catalog, they look very similar to Early Ford Store pricing.

Headlight Early Ford Store $99.50 Narragansett $105.55
Dash Early Ford Store $99.50 Narragansett $110.90
Body Early Ford Store $62.50 Narragansett $74.95
