1928 Frame number SPACING
Just cleaned off the frame number on a 1928 frame and wonder about the spacing between the last number and last star. Were the stars stamped first and the numbers added later? Looks like there is room for two more on my frame. Bob

Re: 1928 Frame number SPACING
Just a guess but if i had to stamp numbers all day i would stamp the 2 stars with the one tool so i didnt waste a movement picking up the star again after i stamped the number. Henry may have instructed them to do that to save precious seconds. The number spacing and alignment is all over the place from what ive seen as well.

More than likely there are 2 or 3 more numbers you can't see. I believe the purpose of the stars were to begin and end the numbers so the number can't be added to

Re: 1928 Frame number SPACING
Has anyone ever done the math for how long it took to stamp all those numbers in the frame AND the engine block ?????
Even if they were done at two separate times along the assembly line, try doing it yourself and see how long it takes to line up the stamp and STRIKE IT HARD while keeping them all straight in a row. Wouldn't you think sometimes there may be a doubled number or human error ???

Re: 1928 Frame number SPACING
If you look at the photo I posted long enough, you will think there are two stars between the last 4 and star. I went out and double checked with a magnifying glass and it is just blank frame space with a few rust pits. I keep looking for a frame number / date chart, know there is one out there some were. Bob

Re: 1928 Frame number SPACING
In January of 29 they reached 7 digits. Do you have a body that was on the frame? If so there is a date stamped on the front of the tank, sometimes upside down. Usually on the drivers side above the steering column.

Yes, It starts with a star A 6 numbers the odd space and a star. Just a nice old frame from a once restored car. Bob
