Default 29 roadster vacuum wiper help needed.

I am still puzzled about the metal tubing positioning. If you can help me get things located correctly, please send me a private message. Thanks, Bill.

There are 2 pieces of metal tubing. One comes from the intake manifold and goes to the firewall in the area near the sediment bowl where you drill a hole. The second piece is inside the cockpit from the firewall fitting across to the drivers side kick panel area.

A 1929 Roadster would have had an electric wiper.

I had a late 29 roadster and it had a factory plug over a hole for the vacuum line in the firewall. They must have been getting ready for the change from electric in October.

If it is like a '31 or '32 (yes, not a typo, I also have a Model B) there will be a third metal tube running up the post that holds the windshield. A&L, (860) 693-0112, used to make these.

This explanation is covered in the RG & JS manual.

My 30 deluxe roadster has a vacuum wiper mounted inside the car. I think the open cars all did until later in the 30's.

Besides the vacuum lines you have mentioned already you should see metal tubing going up the driver side windshield frame to the motor mounted on top.

Metal tubing connects to the motor unit with small rubber tubes at the motor.

I believe this is the original factory setup.

Just so we are clear, I feel there is a lot of mis-information being given here. hopefully this helps..

Bill, the manual wiper was actually phased out in November of '28 and totally replaced by the electric wiper for all of '29.

My Roadster was built in July 1930. It is vacuum wiper and looks like that is consistent with the chart.

Seems strange they went back and forth on the wiper design. Wish mine was electric.

Sorry for any mis-info

Ok, lets start over. The original poster of this thread asked about the routing of the vacuum line for a '29 (1929) Roadster, ...which the factory did not offer a vacuum wiper in 1929 on that bodystyle. You stated that your (July) 1930 Deluxe Roadster had a vacuum wiper, ...which is a true statement because Ford began installing vacuum wipers beginning in May of 1930. Again, the original question was where did the metal line for a vacuum wiper get routed on a 1929 Roadster, ....which I feel the correct answer is factory never installed a vacuum wiper in 1929 on the open cars. They did however begin installing vacuum wipers in late '29 on the Tudor's only, which on occasion the tank was substituted for use in other bodystyles. When this did occur, a plug was used to seal the hole.

Personally I think you are much better off with a vacuum wiper over a zinc-based electric one if you plan to use it.
