Default 47’ Ford Panel Truck

Recently dragged home. Sat abandoned for too many years.
Originally from Kansas. Body is actually very very solid.
Has Antifreeze & Oil in it. Motor is stuck.
Key is in the Ignition.
Headliner is a Hugh Mice Nest. With plenty of Poop running down the door panel. C13E416B-66C7-4F54-8B2B-EC13A0D9E69F.jpg

Great looking panel truck. Sorry to hear about the mice, their waste is very corrosive.

I'm home now and gol dang that is in amazing shape for the Northeast Kingdom. The stuff they did in the 70's and 80's looked awful to me even in that time period. Those white seats and door panels are almost too much to bear! BUT, wow what a nice panel otherwise. You even have nice rear doors, the holy grail for panel guys. I sold my long wheelbase jailbar tonner panel and still have a 1/2 ton I consider a long term project at best. Neither were as solid as this one you just picked up. I have gotten two or three of these V8s unstuck and running, but it's never a sure thing by any means. I can see giving it a try. If it is stuck real hard it will probably never be a solid dependable runner, but sometimes lightly stuck and a bunch of mmo involved they can be brought back into service. Keep us well posted and I will consder this your build thread. God knows we need more build threads on this forum. I'm gonna go make a batch of popcorn while you follow up on your plans for this fine jailbar.... Congrats on such an unusual find in your neck of the woods. Edit: Shout out to 'Pete the Enlarger' I left my good reading glasses on a jobsite today.

GB, neighbor is coming this weekend with camera , to look in Cylinders.
Then a MMO soak over the Winter.
It was stuck in First gear . I got my Pickup behind it, and tugged / rocked as my buddy was smacking the bottom of shifter forward with a dead blow hammer.
No Luck. We had to take up floor cover to remove top of Trans.
Couple long Screwdrivers to pop into Nuteral.
Yesterday I filled the Trans with MMO, and put top back on. Started gutting the interior.
And sprayed the exterior with “ Wet and Forget” . Hopefully it will loosen up the moss.
Don’t really want to use a pressure washer on it.

Wow! Stretch, Nice looking jail bar! That really looks solid. It was in pretty good shape not that long ago. Ok less than 70 years ago.
Looking forward to the clean up process. Will it buff out??? Popcorn here!
Regards,
Chris

Many different concoctions to use on suck engines. My go to is a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone. Others may have different thoughts.

So maybe instead of MMO, I will make up a Cocktail for Cylinders .

I have made cocktails tor stuck engines that make a Long Island Iced Tea look wimpy. If the engine has been removed from the vehicle one even has the option to go 'flambeau' on it after a long soaking....

I was going to sell my 41 panel truck but maybe I will put it back inline to build, unless something else happens

Hi Stretch, NICE TRUCK! I had a 42 1\2 ton PU in high school. very similar to your 47. If it had of been half as solid as yours looks I would still be driving it. Like GB said the white padded stuff has to go away in my eyes. Is it a three speed and do you know any history on the truck ? Tim

Hello Stretch. I like the Jailbar Panel. Very groovy. It does look like a good fixer upper.

Your friend might struggle to get the camera down towards the bore. It might be worth going straight to pulling the heads and intake. You will learn a lot very quickly by doing that.

I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Mart.

Thanks Mart . Winter is coming here soon, so soak cylinders up for the Winter.
Currently 62 deg today. I should be finishing up our Leaves.
But I am out there cleaning it up. Rain next two days , then high of 42 next week.
Put Leaves off till then.
