36' seat re-do, how do you know?
so how do you know when it's time to replace seat springs? these sure are ugly, but maybe if re-tied, or new springs they could still be used? seat bottom wood is a little rough on sides, but I can fix that. i'd sure like to save the 400.00 or so dollars that new seat springs would cost. . . why are the wood sides so long? any problem to re-shape them? I will be re-making them out of Baltic birch, so that would be the time. what say you?

Actually unless those springs are very rusty or a lot of them are broken you are better off with original springs. What is your main concern regarding the springs?

Re: 36' seat re-do, how do you know?
no, it's not that. that's why theres a picture of a speaker up. same camera, same steps to load. I tried from 12-15 different files, they all load. not the ones I took today. the two that did load should have been all of them. I don't know why those two made it. p.s. this thread is great! very informative.

Re: 36' seat re-do, how do you know?
I'm thinking the seat sides are long to help keep the trunk area closed. I copied the stock seat sides on my coupe.

Re: 36' seat re-do, how do you know?
The trimmer that did my kids 3W, back in the '50s, added extras to better isolate the trunk area. Besides the normal back of seat flap, he also added rubber flaps to the bottom of the seat and side panels, along with seals on the B pillars that closed of the gap between the seat sides and pillars.
