oops
Finally decided to save my 8BA rebuild for another day and just swap out the engine. Got a hold of a 1951 mercury that had been rebuilt fairly recently. Will try the overdrive swap that came with it another day also.
Getting to the end of project. Been fun, Water pump bolts are kinda dumb idea right? All I had left was mount carburetor, change sending unit for water temp guages and fill with antifreeze. Sure enough old factory sending unit twisted off, part fell down the hatch. Yikes gotta pull the head off. While these things are great projects they can be frustrating at times. On a happy note Reds headers and tailpipe extensions bolted up just fine. |

Re: oops
Red's Headers bolt up just fine to just about anything.

Re: oops
So as I look more at the situation I dont think the part that fell in will hurt anything. It,s just in the water jacket. Whatta ya think?

Re: oops
Could create blockage and cause overheating.

Re: oops
Thanks guys. I will try it. I had an extra head laying around and re created the incident. The sensor as it were is so big it will not pass out of the head. So yeah I am going to run it. Hate doing so but I could not get it out anyway. Thanks again

Re: oops
Try a magnet or a strong vacuum cleaner.
I recently dropped a nut down the intake manifold. Stainless steel not magnetic and vacuum did not work. Nut ended up behind no.6 intake valve spring |

Re: oops
My Model A fan blew up and completely destroyed the water pump and even broke the impeller inside the head. part of it went down into the engine water jacket. Been there for a couple of years now with no apparent ill effects. I'd say run it.
