If you look on the AACA Forum, under "DODGE" (?), you will find this:
MIKE (mikeburch)

Enough to make a grown man cry
This used to be a 1938 Ford. I tried to buy it but he wants $1000.00 for it.

If the hood wasn't broken and had the driver side trim, that alone would have been worth the price!

Buy it and I will sell you a good std front clip! I sure would love to have it. What part of the country is it in?

Mike, my first '35 coupe had a homemade wooden bed mounted in the back like that. Fortunately, the piece that was cut out of the back was still with the car and I had that welded back in place.

There was actually a Ford Coupe w/pickup option in '37 and '38 that looked pretty much like that. There is one restored in the V8 club, though I've never seen it, nor do I remember who has it. A Ford factory photo is in a book somewhere, but CRS got me again on which book.

A gentleman named Jay Temple showed me one like this in better condition that he planned to restore. His was a 37 I believe. This was about 7 years ago. He was a very active member of the Early v8 Club and said it was all produced by Ford, American version of the Ute. He lives near Concord ,NC if my memory serves me correctly. His might have been in the v8 Club book!

There is one shown in the EFV-8C/A's '37 Ford Book.

isn't the bed slid into trunk so it could be used as truck and qualified for wartime fuel rations? early ranchero prototype!

Rare bed and they were available in 37 and 38 and perhaps other years. I have also seen Pontiac Coupes with a bed in the trunk like that. There was one for sale on the auction site a few years back...down in Florida from what I remember.

My uncle had a Chevy with the bed like that. I was 6 or 7 back then. I never forget it. They are all gone now. A couple of years ago there was one on e-bay.

I do not know where this Ford is.
I just "copied" and "pasted" it from the AACA Forums.
You might go there and learn more.
It was in the "DODGE" section for some reason.

Mike,
A great project for you in your spare time. Saying that I know you don't have the space in your garage, so in case you have to get rid of one, let me know...

Bud
