41 won't start when hot
My 41 tonner, carb problems fixed. New external coil, wires, plugs. Old points, but I cleaned them and adjusted on krw fixture. Truck turns over one time and fires right up,drives smooth and pulls thru the gears nicely. After a 5 mile drive, let sit 10min. Won't start. Hit the electric fuel pump....still won't start. Wait 30min a few cylinders will fire then it picks up and runs.
Could this be the old points or point spring tension causing this? |

Re: 41 won't start when hot
leaking power valve? next time stick your nose into the carb and see if it flooding- we have that problem around the south if you even think about touching the gas pedal before you crank over a hot engine

Re: 41 won't start when hot
I'm having a similar problem and was just going to post the question of a carb spacer, mine won't start when how and when it does it seemed flooded, tonight I looke dat the carb and the bottom of it and the manifold are wet, I fired it up and let it run for several minutes and could here the carb gurgling and gas boiling out,I'm guessing this oen needs a phonolic spacer, is there such a thing on these.

Re: 41 won't start when hot
ABento: Yes, there are spacers check out V8 Times ad for Robert Shewman or send him an email [email protected] You most likely have a carb problem. If you are using the Ford Holley 94 check out the power valve and it's gasket, the fuel input valve, the fuel pressure (<2.5#). Charlie Schwendler is the 94 repair person He also has an ad in V8 Times Services section.

Re: 41 won't start when hot
This has got the 50 series carb on it.
After thinking about this some more my guess would be that its getting hot and boiling the gas, which is seeping to the outside of the carb, but bubbling into the intake manifold as well, this is my hard starting problem as it is flooded and hot gas is less likely to fire, I'll get the phomlic spacer and see how that works. Thank you |

Re: 41 won't start when hot
Had the same problem. Mine was the coil. Step one: Check the spark when cranking the hot engine. Should get a nice blue spark to jump half an inch. Good spark but no start, - then look at carb flooding.

Re: 41 won't start when hot
I had the same problem with my car, I'm supprised someone didn't mention the connections on the ballast resistor, they need to be clean and tight. After I got mine cleaned the engine fired up, the corrosion causes a low voltage to the coil. Check it out, its located under the dash where the resistor and fuse box is. Hope this helps your problem. Al
