Re: Valves
Most of the dealers should carry the parts in their catalogs. here is a sample from Snyder's;

Re: Valves
thanks, I here that the push rod bosses are a bit to tall to adjust the valves. Is there any negative to shorting the bosses a quarter inch or so ?

Re: Valves
I use the single lock tappets and don't have an issue adjusting them. Double lock are more work than single lock but with the correct wrenches not difficult. I have ground a couple open end wrenches quite thin to allow them to fit between the boss and the end of the tappet. If you do not work with the thin wrenches I am describing, yes, the process is difficult.
I am not a proponent for shortening the bosses as it decreases the wear surfaces and if the bosses are aready a bit worn, shortening them will allow the tappet to move out of proper alignment more than a full length boss. Good Day! |

Re: Valves
On the flip side, we do it all the time, re shorten bosses. BUT we only remove just enough from the top so the wrench (thin one) can hold the lifter. How far the flats reach out above the boss can depend on cam and lifters used. Worn or regrind cam maybe not as much as a new cam. If you trim the lifter boss, test fit and only take the minimum off the top to be able to do the job, don't just take it to the machine shop and have more then is what is needed removed. Also, after that is done, clean up the inside cut edge so there are no burrs.
