Default Tillotson Carb Question

I am rebuilding my Model X carb. I am having problems using the adjusting needle (which was included in the rebuild kit). This is controlled by the GAV. The diameter just below the threads is .010" larger than the old one and will not go into the mating part. Is it ok to just take .010" off with some emory cloth and move on? Also, you can see in the photos that the new needle is appox. .100" longer than the old one. The extra length is below the threads. The distance from the needle point to the next shoulder is the same. I'm assuming there is enough adjustment in the GAV to account for this. Thanks in advance for the help. Sorry for the fuzzy pics.

If the old needle is good, use it, otherwise you might bugger up the threads.

It appears the threads on the new needle my bottom before the needle end reaches the needle seat ?
Be sure to check the results as you want to be able to control the extra fuel with the GAV.

Just to follow up, I was unable to use the old needle due to a groove in the seat. So, I chucked up the new needle in the drill press and used a fine file to reduce the OD, followed by some 400 grit Emory to smooth it up. I installed the pin and finished the carb installation. Everything worked and the engine ran much smoother than before the rebuild. I love it when a plan comes together!

Please forward the pictures and what was needed to make it work to the vendor that sold you the kit. They need to know what they are selling to the customers.

Mike V,

I so AGREE with you. Good advice. Feedback to the vendor is important.
