Default Front Carpeting

The front carpeting in my Tudor is hard to keep in place and it's worn enough that I need to replace it. Although not correct for a Tudor Deluxe, I've been thinking about using a standard rubber mat replacement. Are there any pros or cons for either alternative?

The carpet should be held in place by the fasteners, just like the rubber mat. It doesn't just "sit" there. Check the judging standards for details.

I believe the Tudor front carpet also had a fastener in each rear corner.

Fog the back of the carpet & the floor boards, LIGHTLY, with clear 3M spray trim cement. It'll ,stay in place, but will peel up easily, if you need to take out the floor boards.

When I last had my carpets out, I put a layer of the felt type insulation as sold by all hot rod shops under it as well as some vynal covered insulation on the firewall. It made a big difference in the noise and heat in the car and really tightened things up. I also put some peal and stick black weatherstripping on the doors as well. Nice cheap little project that really changed the car.

My carpet is old but in fairly decent condition. I was thinking about adding an indoor/outdoor carpet as backing (---to make it stiffer,) gluing them together with contact cement. Do you think this would add another year or two to the life of the carpet? I think that it's too old for fasteners - especially where the corners are damaged.
