Brake shaft lube question
Stock 31 closed cab pickup with later version of the emergency brake cross shaft that does not have the lube fittings on each end like the earlier version had.
My question is: How does one lubricate shaft ends where they mounted on the frame? Thanks for any tips or suggestions. |

Re: Brake shaft lube question
They were designed to NOT be lubricated!!!
The originals were a steel or zinc shell with a material that had a brass screen with woven 'cloth' that appears to be impregnated with graphite. No lubrication is needed or wanted at this point. Oils and greases attract dirt and can cause binding. You do not want your brakes stuff to bind. They would fit snug, but a little wear will not affect function on either brake shaft. Yes, the same bushings are used on the service brake shaft. |
