Default Destributor noise

In a 1951 V/8 dristributor with the engine running there is a tap,tap sound. The distributor has a new cap, new rotor, new points and condenser. There is some end play in the shaft. The engine starts and runs with good power. Any ideas on the cause of this noise and problems it may cause. RR

Make sure your rotor is pushed all the way down and the cap is seated down. other than that I am clueless, maybe a bent shaft?

Is the little steel clip on the top of shaft that holds the rotor tight? The rotor goes on to it.
