High compression head
Is there any way to externally distinguish a Snyder HC head from a stock head? Thanks

Re: High compression head
Different combustion chamber than a stock A head.

Re: High compression head
A vast majority of the stock Model A heads will have a small raised casting mark on the top of the head in front of the water outlet above the boss for the water pump. The Snyder's head is smooth in that location. The first picture is a stock Ford head, the second is a Snyder's 5.5 head. This is not a foolproof way to identify a Snyder's head since I have seen other, older, aftermarket heads with no identifying features or casting marks. Gar Williams

Re: High compression head
May Snyder head came in today and the casting sand pattern seems a little courser then my stock head. I intend to paint this weekend and hopefully the look will smooth out a bit.

Re: High compression head
Group,
Very interesting. I have NO raised casting mark in the water pump area. I do have either a faint 18 or 19 near the front of the head toward number 1 cylinder. Also, the compression is 70 lbs here in "thin air" colorado (5000 ft). I wonder if I have a HC Head ? Marc |
