MEXICO CITY: The Mexican subsidiary of US automaker General Motors said on Thursday that it planned to invest $540 million to manufacture two types of low-emission engines at its plant in Toluca.
The project will create 500 direct and 500 indirect jobs, and it will allow the plant to produce engines featuring new technologies that consume less fuel and operate more efficiently, the automaker said in a statement.

So, that's how they are using my bailout money. I'm so happy TAX day is soon. You'd think the government would have had the brains to put stipulations on those millions in give aways.

Toluca Mex.-- That's where my car was built in 2000 and it's not a GM. So what's the big deal?

It's all about profit and low overhead, They don't care if Americans don't have jobs, they'll go out back and pick what they need to buy the cars from the money tree!

Ford is no better, most aluminium wheels are made in china, more electrical items, hubcaps, chinese. Stuff you'd never think of are made there. Peoples republic of China right on the box! We had a recall on the aluminium wheels on the Edge for peeling, they can plate over aluminium.

THey are all the same...............

I heard that Ford buys paint from Japan, specifically reds and yellows. Because of the problems there, they can't get the paint.

A quick scan of recent articles shows GM has spent over a billion on upgrades to its Michigan plants in the last 5 years. If they spend some money south of the border, that's just business.

Anyone catch 60 Minutes 2 weeks ago, when they showed how the US has the highest corporate tax rates in the world? and how many jobs that has cost us?

Yes, the US has a high nominal corporate tax rate for compared to other countries. However, the tax rate actually paid is much less, due to a wide variety of tax deductions and incentives. Most reports don't disclose this simple fact.

High taxes, high energy costs, OSHA, EPA. lawyers, insurance companies, sur charges and decent wages make the US non competitive. They have to compete in a world market. You can not design an engine without all kinds of people having their hands in the design process. It is a problem we imposed on ourselves.

I think the US auto makers have done pretty good for all of the stuff they have to put up with. The government does not realize what they cost the companies in US and the American consumer.

It is not just the auto makers but everything.

Suggestion to moderators:

BAN ALL THREADS CONTAINING THE WORDS "TAX" AS POLITICAL SPEECH.

Honestly, guys, there's enough forums and blogs to fight about that stuff.

Opinions are like a$$holes, everybody has one and they all stink!

I think we should all go to the Political Party Conventions and complain about the the high price and lack of vintage tin. And we could also grip about the birth certificate of each and every Repop part.

Thanks for your Thread Ron, I hadn't heard that. You know, the Threads that I am not interested in, Some I don't open if the topic doesn't have interest me. Others I open and find I have no interest, so I don't open them again, and that seams real D#% easy for me. To whine about a thread that you can open, or not to open, is to me like an Airport moving out in the country, and people buliding houses around it again, an B#$%&*@ about the noise. How's this, if your a big boy, you can open your own thread, and see if that interests any body. Herm.

Hey Ron,
All due respect, but when you open these kinds of topics the ugliness starts to come out, even if you didn't mean it that way.

On the bright side, a factory employing some folks and the surrounding support that accompanies it (eaterys, etc...) in Mexico is that many less coming up thru the border illegally.
