The cable on my Tack broke??
I took the cable loose from the tack and pulled the cable out and it broke about 12 inches. I got one from Hill's and I am lost in installing it to the Distributor. How do I do it?

Re: The cable on my Tack broke??
Unbolt the other end of the tach cable from the distributor and pull it out. There will be a small gear on the end that slides out of the outer cable jacket. (photo #2) It may be better to remove the whole cable from the car, to avoid getting grease on the carpet or seat.
You should be able to remove the inner cable by pushing it out one end or the other. Is the new inner cable the same length as the old one? '56 & '57 are the same length, '55 is a few inches longer. It's just like most speedometer cables, the center cable works inside an outer jacket that needs a light grease inside. The ends of the inner cable are pressed into a square shape that slides into fittings at each end. Since you've undone the Tach end under the dash that's the hardest part of the job, except for putting back in. There is a bushing in the back of the Tach that probably hasn't been lubed since '56. A few drops of light oil would be a very good idea. example photo # 4 (yes it's a speedometer photo) The Tach can be fairly easily removed from the dash by undoing the 2 nuts on the odd shaped bracket holding it in. I don't have a photo of the back of a '55/'56 Tach so I substituted a photo of a '55 clock. They're the same size & shape and the hardware holding them into the dash is the same. The Tack is back to working now thanks to Dave Lyle. We test drove the T-Bird and I let Dave drive it also. He very sharp on the t-Birds and a great help with mine.
