32 commercial floor board metal pieces
Looking for a source for the metal floorboard pieces that fit around the pedals and steering column for a pickup. Research has indicated that they are different then passenger, is this correct?
Thanks |

Re: 32 commercial floor board metal pieces
Yes, the commercial floor plates are unique due to the shorter cowl. Please see the photos below. The pedal plates shown are the later version. The earlier version of those plates have the brake pedal slots even with the clutch pedal slots. The change was required when the brake pedal was shortened.

Re: 32 commercial floor board metal pieces
How do I distinguish between the early/late pedals?

The early brake pedal is the same length as the clutch pedal from the shaft at the bottom of the pedal to the elbow in the pedal. The late brake pedal is 3/8" shorter from shaft to elbow.

Re: 32 commercial floor board metal pieces
Also: There are at least two versions of the commerical floor plates, that I know of. Like the pedal plates, the later version of the floor plate is what is shown in the drawing. The transmission shifter tower had early and late versions. The passenger side of the early shifter tower was round. Thus the passenger side of the hole in the floor plate was round, not flate as shown in the drawing above.

Good point! I should have mentioned that about the drawing.
I believe that the transmission cover plate that Dave Renner offers is the later version, consistent with the drawing above. |

Re: 32 commercial floor board metal pieces
The photo you have posted is of the early commercial plate. It is missing the starter rod hole below the steering column because this plate was used with the steering column drop mounted pull cable for the starter switch. It is also used with the early brake and clutch pedal assembly.

In my case I have the starter pull cable on the column. Truck originally came with the 4 cylinder and was the pull cable ever used on the V8? |

Re: 32 commercial floor board metal pieces
Answered my own question and the V8`s did not come with a cable.

Re: 32 commercial floor board metal pieces
Thinking about it, this piece would be extremely hard to find, without the hole for the starter button ?

Re: 32 commercial floor board metal pieces
Not particularly, as the V-8 engine was not released for production use in commercial vehicles and trucks well into the model year and the change to foot-operated starter switches on fours was also a fairly late change.

Re: 32 commercial floor board metal pieces
Double checked the pedal plate from my wagon, no hole for the starter. Possibly a pull starter in it's previous life?
Keep V-8ing and 4 banging!
