1953 Mercury Monterey
Nearly two years ago I made a post about a junky Mercury Monterey that I bought in high school. I’m now in college and the car is running beautifully. We put in a new radiator and new water pumps. Rebuilt the carb and treated the gas tank. She’s now waiting on her rims to be painted then I’m on to a new restoration project a 1956 Buick Roadmaster . I’m soon going to be doing a “clean up” of a 1964 Mercury Marauder with 13,000 original miles as well! I’d like to thank you all for helping me on the car.

Re: 1953 Mercury Monterey
Congratulations on being able to "Git'er done". The car looks great! There are not many Mississippians here on the 'Barn. If you feel comfortable, please post your location in your avatar.

Re: 1953 Mercury Monterey
Love it. I owned a '54 Monterey convert . Love the body style. Drove it senior year in College, then from Jersey to La and Hermosa beach for summer work at NAA. Then to flying school. Then to trade in back in Jersey. If I had had my way, she would still be with me.

Re: 1953 Mercury Monterey
An interesting story. Where I grew up in Canada the farms around the area would burn off the thatch in the spring so that the new grass could come in nice and rich. My dad thinking it was a good idea decided to do the same thing in our yard. We lived out in the country so it was no big deal really. That was until the garage which was a free standing building away from the house caught on fire! And it was too far for any house type garden hose or anything. Worst of all was the fact that my dads 1953 Mercury Monterey 4 door was inside sitting up on blocks with the transmission out of it. He was in the process of replacing the clutch. Well before the fire department could there the entire garage and car burnt to the ground! Sorry way for a good car to end! I was 8 years old and THAT made quite an impression on me at the time.

Re: 1953 Mercury Monterey
Wife and I drove a 54 Merc HT to Ca. in 1960. Sailor totaled it parked at the curb.
Now I like the flat head years better. Bruce

Re: 1953 Mercury Monterey
Beautiful car. I bought one just like it in 1959. Drove it until 1966 and in a moment of weakness sold it to a friend who needed a car. He drove it a week and totaled it. I still miss it. Hold on to it.

Re: 1953 Mercury Monterey
There’s a 53 Hardtop in town I want to get my hands on. Would be a nice companion to my 4 door. As far as I know the owners in the nursing home and the kids won’t sell it. Car is just sitting in the yard.
