1928 Tudor, fresh from barn
City:
Western
State:
NY
Price:
6,000 - BO
Here is a nice example of a fresh from barn 28 Tudor. Actually drove out of barn to lawn where it sits for sale. This is a friends car, I will answer the questions I can and pass along the other to the owner. He is in his 70's and has a hard time moving around.
Car is in good shape, will need patch panel, someone has already installed some, but done badly. car will also need 4 tires and drive it away. He has some tires for additional cost. For those from WNY that would want to see in person, make a Tuesday night available!!!! EDIT, the identification number for this car is A308,xxx. Which means this cars manufacture was in August of 1928. Last edited by Pothole Jim; 08-18-2010 at 07:37 AM. |

Jim, is that "THE" Tuesday night gathering or do I have you confused with another WNY Jim?

Note left hand E brake - makes it AR from May June '28 I think.

I do agree with you Ed that it should be restored, but if the only person willing to pay the 6k is a rodder, than so be It.

I have had many requests for a VIN number, I will get any information I can and will pass along as needed. Also for those interested, please contact me. I will put you in direct contact with owner. I am trying to help this man sell his car, I am not seeking any commission or compensation at all, just helping an old friend. As to the Rodders out there, this one will not be a rod. He is very stern and stubborn and will not sell to rodders. Ask me how I know I've been trying to get him to sell stuff to me for years and he won't sell me a lump of coal!!! This car also appears to have the early '28 hood -certainly no later production than May - June.

Re: 1928 Tudor, fresh from barn
Nice car. I too, hope it goes to a restorer.
Regarding the others comments about dating, the serial number of 308xxx, is in alignment with our 1928 49-A Special Coupe, firewall date of August 5, 1928, engine and frame number 304,789. It has all of the "early" items mentioned, including the "early" style front fenders this Tudor sports. The only difference is the left emergency brake from what I can see. The left brake system was being phased out during February through June of 1928. When the "60-day" carryover rule is applied, this early August 1928 Tudor could certainly have had that left emergency brake from factory, as the patina suggests. So many of those so-called "early-28" features carried through much of 1928 as the assembly plants were coming up to speed. I would ignore that front open-end bumper as someone's attempt years ago to bump up the "early" factor of the car. Oh, and again, a common mix of early and later parts are those early style front fenders and mid to later style rear fenders. Just my observations. Pothole Jim, If that steering wheel exhibits the tiny black flecks in the red resin, let the owner know I'll give him $750 for it, right now. I'll send a new repro for replacement, too. (I can hope, can't I?) Dave Lopes |

Re: 1928 Tudor, fresh from barn
Just West of Dayton, OH airport, Nov 7
"As to the Rodders out there, this one will not be a rod. He is very stern and stubborn and will not sell to rodders." Ensure him that is not the intent, looking for a winter restore project to get started on. You said it was running when you pulled it out the barn? How long ago? Ask him what's the best price he will take (Cash). Email direct to [email protected] |

Re: 1928 Tudor, fresh from barn
Don't worry folks, I bought the car. It's going to stay completely original, just going to get it running and make it safe to drive for now then evaluate what mechanical parts need to be rebuilt to make it a reliable driver. I'm not doing anything to the body other than make it so things aren't falling off it. I think it has lots of charm and character just the way it is

Re: 1928 Tudor, fresh from barn
Tyler, Nice buy. I bought a barn find e28 a couple of months ago too. It looks much like yours in color and condition. Mine didn't come with the barn cat though. I'm going to do the same with mine for now. Get the mechanicals working properly with decent brakes, steering, tires and good cooling. Just a preservation for now. Good luck and congrats on the purchase. Post more pics as it progresses. Jerry
