'39 Lincoln Zephyr gas tank
Hello all! Its been awhile since I have been on here, things have gotten a little busy... I am taking time off my project and getting my grandpa's 1939 Lincoln Zephyr running and back in shape again. I pumped three year old gas out of the tank earlier in the week, and the tank looked NASTY. I still cannot get it to run, if i pull the top of the carb off and put gas in the bowl and prime the fuel pump it will run until the gas is gone in the carb. I can feel the fuel pump pushing air, so it seems to be working. I am thinking that the gas tank and line are so dirty and varnished that it plugged up. Does this sound right? I was thinking about taking the gas tank out to clean it out and seal it again, and trying to blow the gas line clean. If so, is there anything I need to know about getting this tank out?

Re: '39 Lincoln Zephyr gas tank
I just removed the tank in my 39 Zephyr so its still fresh on my mind . The first thing before you unbolt the tank from the frame is to break loose the filler neck where it screws into the tank. You will need a spanner wrench for that and probably a whack with a hammer to break it loose. Then remove the inspection cover in the trunk floor and remove the wire from the sending unit . Go underneath and remove the fuel line going into the tank then remove the bolts on each side holding the tank to the frame . Then slide the tank as far as it will possibly go to one side then drop the other side from the frame , it almost takes a shoehorn for this , they didnt give much room to work with .Remember when you put it back you will need a new lead washer for the filler neck and a new sending unit gasket , these are the same as used on the Fords so they are readily available. What body style ? mine is a coupe.
