Default Servicing a 1935 generator armature

Sorry about the duplicate post. Disregard this one.

I thought maybe you guys would be interested in seeing how I seviced this armature. Its from a date code 2-P (February 1935) generator I'm going to put on my 1935 Fordor Deluxe Touring car. I tore down the generator last night. I alway start with the armature. In order, this is what I do:

1 - After a visual inspection for damage, I clean the commutator. Then check the armature on a growler for opens, shorts or grounds. If good, then:

2. Set it up in the lathe and true the commutator, taking off as little as possible. In this case it was .010". Flush with electrical contact cleaner.

3. Use a mica undercutter to recut the mica between the commutator bars. I cut these about .020" deep. The mica is very hard and will quickly wear out the brushes if it is flush or above the copper bars.

4. Back to the lathe were I take 320 then 400 wet/dry paper to the commutator to smooth any burrs and polish the surface.

5. Flush again with electrical contact cleaner. Then mask and spray with red electrical sealer.

That's it. Still a lot of work to do on the rest of the generator. But I just take it one bite at a time

Here are a few photos and a short video on undercutting the mica. Hope you find it interesting.
