Pacific Northwest visit
Hello, I will be visiting the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Seattle, etc..). Are there any shops, museums, anything else related to traditional Hot Rods and vintage motorcycles I should visit?

World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville, Oregon. It's a new museum right off I-5. Last time I was there they had a lot of old Indy cars, but the exhibits may have changed by now. Then there is Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon. You'll see the "Spruce Goose" and a Ford Tri-Motor plus lots of WWII planes. Great aviation museum.

A cool museum with all brands of old cars and planes. It's up the Columbia Gorge, which you should see while in the northwest anyway. You'll pass by Multnomah Falls which is a must see. 1600 Air Museum Rd. Hood River, OR 97031 (541) 308-1600 |

Hi; On weekends the Brooks Oregon Powerland, just off I-5. There are 17 museums in the complex. The car and motorcyle museum is at the North end of the complex... all run by volunteers. Newc NWVC&MM www.nwcarandcycle.com

Re: Pacific Northwest visit
The Paul Allen museum: "The Flying Heritage Museum" is definitely worth a trip, allow at least a couple of hours. Almost all the planes in the museum are flying and there are some very rare birds.
Be sure and take the tour through the Boeing plant, it's excellent. If it's not Boeing, I'm not going... Not far from the FHM. The Boeing collection restoration facility is near the FHM as well. The Boeing museum is at the old airport in south Seattle. Also, take a ride across Puget Sound on one of the ferries, while you can still afford it. Here's a picture of two of the FHM aircraft on one of the flight days. Hard to believe these two planes are only 25 years apart. Let me cast a vote also for the WAAM in Hood River, OR. Lots of interesting old cars and planes.

Re: Pacific Northwest visit
There are actually two lemay museums the one mentioned, and the family museum which is open to the public, and shows several hundred of their personally owned cars.
There's a hydroplane museum in kent, halfway between sea and tac. They have a couple of smaller flathead powered ones as well as the old Merlin rolls Royce ones. Thunder on the lake!!! |

Re: Pacific Northwest visit
I've heard first hand that the one to visit is the family museum , More to see, and better access.

Re: Pacific Northwest visit
As a visitor in the NorthWest for the last 50 years, I would suggest the wonderment of the NW lies outside the cities, from seashore to desert. I would suggest viewing this links by national geographic which includes many of the foregoing suggestions but adds other IMHO more interesting natural ones :

Re: Pacific Northwest visit
If you visit the Portland area, send me a message. My last Colorado visitor was Rumble Seat. I enjoyed his visit. We both similar medical issues, but he liked the junk in my garage.

Re: Pacific Northwest visit
Another vote for the WAAAM museum in Hood River. I volunteer there 2-3 times per
month and could give you the two-bit tour. Everything from rare antiques, many original survivors, a few hot rods, and 60's muscle cars. Most fly and drive. The 2nd Saturday of every month is an open house, with a different theme, and free car rides. It really is quite unique! |

Re: Pacific Northwest visit
You can't beat the view from Hurricane Ridge in Olympic national park with good weather. No better view in all the national parks.

Re: Pacific Northwest visit
It is a beautiful place to visit, for certain. What mrtexas says, x2. We visit Hurricane Ridge a couple of times each year. Worth the trip. You can't be in a rush though. Slow down and enjoy. Take your walking shoes, too (a must). The trails, especially those leaving from the more remote south parking area offer breathtaking vistas of the Olympic range to the south and the Straights of Juan de Fuca to Vancouver Is., Canada looking north. The drive up (and I mean UP) from sea level in Port Angeles is worth the trip in itself. Enjoy!
