55 T-bird AOD installation
I know some information on intalling a Ford AOD in a 55/57 Tbird has been discussed, but I've not had a lot of luck locating info...Main question is how cramped the tran will be when installed, whether drive shaft must be altered; realize will need the early AOD with the TV cable downshift...
Any Info will be appreciated!!! Bill/Okla |

Bill, if no one has an answer for you here, there are several small bird owners on the y-blocksforever.com website.

Re: 55 T-bird AOD installation
I have a 302/and AOD combo in my '54 Ford Customline no problem with room.Best years for the AOD are 1988-93 these are non-computer and have the later improved valve body I do not recommend the earlier AOD's.The AOD and C4 share the same front yoke splines,if you are going to retain your stock rear end you can probably swap the front yoke by using a conversion U-joint.Pay this site a visit and you will learn how to measure:http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/how_to_measure.html they can also provide you with the proper yoke and U-joint.The easiest way to provide a kickdown is to use the kit made by LOKAR http://www.jegs.com/i/Lokar/625/KD-2...Fc57Qgod9CUApw they are set up to work with later Holleys & Carter AFB/Edelbrock carburetors if you stil have the original "teapot" it may take some adapting here is a great video one of my members on the 1952-59 Ford Group put out:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZwsQViZilQ Feel free to pm me for further info. You will also be swapping to an AOD shifter (A C4 will work) try to get a donor transmission from a Mustang as it will have the proper shift lever.
