59A Flathead into a '32 Frame, The Fan

the stock 32 fan is for a 21 stud and the off set is different than a 24 stud because the generators are different you need to run the 59A fan and gen

Hello I"M a original 32 type guy, But in my scrounging for parts I'v seen fans advertised as 32 long hub fans that were slightly shorter . The mounting flange to the generator was the same but the tube length was shorter, than stock 32. All these had a four individual blades riveted to the front hub. Was told these were stock in the 37-38 truck . If you remove the front fan/hub by drilling out the spot welds and center rivet. Then get a 33& up short hub passenger fan assembly . drill the spotwelds & center rivit remove front hub/blade. transfer to the front of the 37-38 truck rear install the center rivit make sure blades are straight with no face runout. Plug weld the hub to the tube where you drilled previous spot welds. dress welds and you will have a stock apearing slightly shorter than 32 fan. I'v done this and takes only an hour or two. The HD truck fans & 33 up blade show up on epay regularly and usually are CHEAP Hope this helps .A good solution if all else fails. Pete the true blue 32 man

There was only one '32 V-8 four blade fan. The early V-8 two-blade fan came in two different hub lengths. All of the other four-blade fans that mount on the front of the generator with four 1/4" bolts are either '33-'36 or '37+ passenger car/commercial fans or post-'32 truck fans and all of them have shorter hub lengths than a '32 V-8 four-blade fan.

There is a lot of wishful thinking in some ads for '32 parts.

Just a thought. There is a fan that looks identical to a 32 fan, but it is about 1/2 inches longer. It is a truck application, not sure of the year, but I have 2 of them. Unless you measure you would swear it is 32 passenger. Did you take your fan off a 32 motor yourself or was it just there?

Bringing this old thread to the top for clearance dimensions. Just bolted the fan to the front of my gen and clearance is tight. Does anyone have a dimension between the fan tips and rad core? Also, steady rods and hood center strip are dimensionally correct and clearance at top looks sufficient, at least an inch but bottom is too close for comfort at less then 1/8". Sorry for the crappy pic but iPad is the best I have.

I don't have a dimension but that looks too close. Get the next shorter fan and even though it will be further than you might want from the radiator I would think it would cool ok.

What would be the next shorter fan from ?
I may have some motor tweaking to do as the passenger side mount does not look centered with the crossmember as well.

I am running a 59AB with 5-speed, not quite the same, but I am running the add on fan off of the generator and I use the two belt system. It's tight to the radiator and I did elongate the radiator mount holes to the front to give me extra clearance but it does have a fingers width (albeit small fingers) of clearance. My pics are not the clearest but I think you can get the idea ....

As far as the fan flexing at speed, won't it just flatten out and not flex forward or am I thinking of flex fans?

I think (and it is an area that I don't know a whole lot about) it is '33-'34 but you would be better off asking by using the dimension. Be careful that the shorter fan doesn't lead to other problems like the blades hitting the radiator hoses or the coil of the distributer.

I used a '49 Ford wide belt fan on a 8RT in an original 32' frame with the K member in the stock location, worked perfect with a stock intake manifold.

Charlie Stephens- You are almost correct. Except there is a fan that is about a 1/4 to 5/16 inch longer on the shaft. Have 2 on my shelf, really a shoehorn fit. They both came on 32 V8s with a 59AB engine replacement. I replaced them with "32" fans. 1962300- measure the fan against a real 32 I think you will see a difference. Bruce Lancaster- you said it, the truck ones- bet he has one.

I had the same issue with My sedan- 1948 59a in 32 chassis using 32 mounts. Stock 32 fan was too long using stock v8 radiator. I found this ford 8N/9N 6 blade beauty on ebay for about 50 bucks and it fits great and pulls a lot of air. There is also a 4 blade version.
