35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
I am not sure of the exact term used to describe the fabric cover on the head light wires going to the headlight on a 35/36 . Not the tar covered stuff. We need some but are not sure what to call it or who a good vendor would be.
Thanks |

Re: 35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
It is normally called flexible conduit and it is available in various diameters from Rhode Island Wiring and no doubt elsewhere.

Re: 35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
Asphalt wire loom. (it is not sticky)
It's available all over the interweb. Google it maybe and locate someplace close to you. I used to have a mini cash of various sizes, hey if you need 2 ft, order 10'. https://www.google.com/search?client...halt+wire+loom . Last edited by Tinker; 01-14-2019 at 08:23 PM. |

Thanks tinker but we dont want the tar stuff, 1/2” fabric with the red tracer is what we are after.

Re: 35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
You may be referring to the wire itself. Conductor wire of the auto ages before 1952 or so all had a woven covering on each wire that was color coded for identification. It is part of the insulator for the early type wiring with a resin binder layer to hold it to the copper wire inside.
If this is what you are referring to the harness wiring sections are available from most of the reproduction suppliers or direct from either Rhode Island Wire or his brother Narragansett Reproductions. The stuff that most suppliers sell was made in the state of Oregon up in the NW US. RIW is generally closer to OEM than the stuff made in Oregon. Last edited by rotorwrench; 01-16-2019 at 08:56 PM. |

Re: 35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
This is the product i am talking about. Sacramento vintage ford has it and others probably.
Though it says 1/2” diameter when you click the link it says 1/2” ,it also mentions a 6 foot roll of 3/16 in the same sentence. 17554 vintage hot rod wire loom 1/2 dia 6ft roll |

Re: 35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
Because I only just found it thanks to Mr Google. I am still hoping to find some local as its NZ$ 29 for 6ft and $41 shipping. I just felt $41 is a bit excessive as they want to send it first class UPS. It also on ebay . Might ask if they can do world wide expedited .

Re: 35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
Your image is too small to see to view and assess?
I've personally bought a few complete harnesses for cars I've had from Sacramento. All very nice stuff. Believe they make them their-selves. So loom material is probably right. |

Re: 35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
All the info for that points to Sacramento Vintage Ford. It is cloth so it is not protected from moisture very well unless they coat it with clear coat or something. Most of the stuff that was actually used back in the day was coated in bitumen so it wasn't all that appealing but it was protected against moisture better. Brillman Company doesn't have any cloth only loom as theirs is bitumen coated and they are one of the largest suppliers of old style wiring products in the US.
That stuff would be OK for loom mounted in the cab but if it is in the elements at all it will fade or discolor over time. |

Re: 35/36 headlight wire fabric cover
Why aren't the asphalt looms okay? for weather??? I like them anyway, not sure why you wouldn't.
Whatever works! . Last edited by Tinker; 01-16-2019 at 10:42 PM. |
