Question 1931 narrow bed pickup question

How did the wood in the bed come from the factory? Was it varnished natural wood or was it painted black? I like the look of natural, but what is correct? Thanks

The truck bed was painted assembled. So the wood, and all the metal was painted body color, which was most often green, but also available in several other colors and in 31 any car color could be special ordered. Wood was not natural or varnished from the factory.

I could very well be wrong but wasn't the bottom side of the bed wood painted with a black preservative and not body color (or at least not a complete coat coat of body color)?

Yes, Charlie, I should have mentioned that. Like car bodies, the underside was not painted in body color, just primer, or black wood preservative. The only body color on the underside would be overspray.
