Default Photo of Henry Ford Leaving the White House

A rare photo (or at least one I never saw) of him leaving the White House in 1927 after a meeting with President Coolidge.

There are apparently ghosts or staff peering out of the window.

Did you guys know that President Coolidge used to have an open reception in the White House each Sunday, when any citizen could get in line and shake his hand?

Those images in the window are strange. The one in the middle looks like JFK which would be impossible to explain.

it is funny you would say that, I was impressed by that too. And I thought men always wore suits back then with matching trousers....though you see photos of guys in summer wearing white pants or plus fours with blazers.

I know this was a formal occasion, meeting the President, but as an aside, us older guys are continually amazed how sloppy-looking the American male public has become.....torn jeans, worn-out shoes, baseball caps on backwards....I don't get it.

At the height of Henry Ford's popularity, after WW-1, a group was formed to recruit him to run for the U.S. Presidency. It was felt that if he could run the country as good as he ran the Ford Motor Company, American would be in good hands. Henry waivered a bit, but in the end declined, thinking he could better serve his country by building a car in such large quantities and at such a low price, that every on in America could have a car. (this was a radical notion at the time - early 'twenties).

As his friend Will Rogers said (I para phrase): "Henry Ford is responsible for putting the world on wheels. We won't know for a hundred years, if that was a good thing or a bad thing."

The Male public? Have you seen Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga lately?

LOL I know the names but not much more. To some extent the "casual" dress is a fad or statement.

I'm waiting for my good friend H.L. to weigh in on this....
