Default She's alive again after a long sleep...

After sleeping for almost 15 years, my '29 Tudor woke up again yesterday! She couldn't have recovered from that rest without a lot of help from folks on this forum....I have read every post back to 2010 and it's unbelievable how much great advice and information can be found here. After timing Marco's way, new oil, and a few new ignition parts, she's running fairly well...I still have to open the GAV about a turn and a half after she's warmed up to allow use of the throttle for a smooth acceleration but when attempting to set the idle, the idle mixture screw doesn't seem to have any effect even when screwed fully in. Sure would appreciate any suggestions at this point....I'm so excited to have the family A running again and will never let her sit like that again! It's time to get her off these jack stands and hit some of these Texas Hill Country roads to add a few more miles on her clock...32,457 original miles now. Thanks to everyone who has helped and encouraged me....sure I will have a bunch of new questions now that she's running!

The carb needs a cleaning. Start with the fuel supply. Likely stuff in the gas tank is the root cause. Bob

Good common sense thinking, Bro Bob,
A pencil filter, a total clean delivery system, a GOOD carb. overhaul, new points & plugs, & it'll run well!
NO NEED TO OVER-COMPLICATE IT!

Thanks! I cleaned the tank before starting, installed a pencil filter above the fuel shutoff valve, new points (.022), plugs (Champion [email protected]), new rotor and body (.025 rotor /body clearance), new condenser, coil, and disassembled the Zenith 2 and cleaned and blew out all the orifices (I think!) Maybe she just needs to run a little longer before I do anything else. I did notice that I can't speed up the rpm much above a fast idle without the GAV open almost 2 turns. I will recheck the carb....Thanks for the advice!

use tom endy's paper clip procedure. from experience the crap lurks in the idle cercuit, and that is why on a good overhaul you would make sure all circuits are clean. try a soak in lacquer thinner before the paper clip. You have a restriction, and it doesn't take much.

Definitely sounds like a fuel restriction.

Pick up a gallon can of carburetor cleaner from the parts store. They have a basket inside that is really handy for soaking parts. Tear your carb down and give it a good soak. Wash it up and blow out the passages with compressed air. You can use the cleaner to clean other parts and pieces not necessaraly carburetor.

After being squeaky clean, a soak in warm vinegar helps get of HIDDEN water/calcium deposits in hidden passages, especially in the idle circuit.
