Trans shifter
Hello all. After starting my all stock 1941 1/2 ton pickup and was placing trans in first gear I noticed my transmission shifter would swing to the left so far it would hit the steering wheel. Also noticed that I could lift up the shifter out of the transmission.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated fellas. Kind regards |

Re: Trans shifter
should be a ring that holds the shifter into trans and also a 1/4" pin that keeps it inline to make the shifts--picture would help

Re: Trans shifter
If the 1/4 inch pin is missing be sure it didn't end up in the transmission as it is hardened and can destroy the gears if it ends up in the wrong place.

Re: Trans shifter
Thanks for the reply’s. I realize now that the screw on cap that holds the shifter handle in had come unscrewed some how. Would this cause my issue? Where is the 1/4” pin supposed to be located?
Appreciate all the advise. Kind Regards |

Re: Trans shifter
The pin goes into a hole in the threaded part of the trans top that the cap screws on, there should be a spring under the cap as well. The pin goes into a milled slot on the half "ball" part of the shifter that mates with the part of the shifter top that matches its shape. I hope your pin just was moved out due to the top being un screwed and no longer engages with the shifter. If you find no pin on the floor, or anywhere, drain the oil out of the trans and pour it through a screen. As mentioned, the pin is only 1/4" in diameter and maybe 1/2" at most in length.
Good luck. |
