34 Ford BB
Greetings and Salutations Gentlemen,
I recently purchased this barn find. I was told its a 34 Ford but near as I can tell, the engine is a 38-39 ish. Can anyone help me narrow this down? I think I may have a problem here. Thank you |

Hello and welcome to the Barn.
That looks like a nice relatively complete starter project. Lots of these old Fords run later V8s. Where do you perceive a problem? Any questions, just ask. And well done for posting a picture first time. Mart. |

Re: 34 Ford BB
I was told that the Earlier models {Pre 1935} had the VIN on the motor, but the the ones after have the VIN on the body. I have a plate on the firewall that might have had a number but it is illegible now. I am not sure if this will be a problem.

Re: 34 Ford BB
The VIN is stamped on the chassis (near steering box) and transmission (above the inspection cover)

Re: 34 Ford BB
34 cabs have an extra 'ridge' on the back of the cab and the seat back is a bit higher than 32/33. Best of all, the '34s have a timken bearing rear diff. Newc

Pgn,
Welcome! I am pretty new here too and have similar problems. Folks on here are the best , and have the knowledge to help in so many ways! I may have a rear seat back springs if you want it, need it? I like your truck! I found the serial numbers in two places on my unit. Frame drivers side at the cowl. and top of intermediate bell housing above starter. May be different on a 34. Pretty sure David G. will be able to assist you too. Regards, Chris

Re: 34 Ford BB
If the plate you are referring to is on the upper right side (facing forward) of the firewall it is likely the patent plate. Your truck's VIN is where sugarmaker indicates on the left side frame rail near the foot of the firewall and because it is V8, the VIN was also stamped on the bell housing of the transmission on a raised flat rectangle above the removable clutch inspection plate.
We'll need to see photos of the engine compartment to determine the vintage of the engine. |

Re: 34 Ford BB
Thanks every one. I did find the VIN and it does fall in line with the 34 on the document that corvett8en linked. Unfortunately my title does not match that number, so i need to figure out what to do next, Thanks for all the information.

Nice "barn find"; continue using the FORD BARN for help. There are no "dumb" questions here and everyone is here to help.

Re: 34 Ford BB
Pgn,
What are your plans for the truck? Is the steel flat bed in good shape? Your tires look to be in way better shape than the ones that were on mine. They also look to be of a similar style tread pattern. My new ones are Firestone type 6.00-20's. Regards, Chris

Back in 1966 when I was 15 I bought a '31 Model with only a partial title. When I turned 16 and went to register it the engine number was from a '29. Caused me all kinds of grief but with a vin inspection by a local cop and a boat load of other forms I was finally able to get a title. Not sure how your state DMV works but with a little bit of perseverance and some dumb ass luck hopefully you'll be able to straighten out the vin discrepancy. Good luck. It will be worth it in the end.

Re: 34 Ford BB
I have the same problem with my '34 pickup. You can buy a blank VIN plate from one of the suppliers. Then you can stamp the # from the title on to the blank plate.

Re: 34 Ford BB
The guy I bought my truck from didn't know where to find the VIN. He had a policeman friend "verify" the VIN and put that on the title. Luckily in Vermont I don't need a title for a vehicle over 25 years old
