Default triple carb setup

I am trying to help a friend who is building an 8BA and looking for a way to handle the generator and top radiator hoses on his triple carb setup. The front carb requires offsetting the generator but then is in the way of a radiator hose. Is a 6 volt alternator much shorter than a generator? Any pictures?
Thanks
John

John:

Offy and others sell different water outlets that put the hose coming off the head at different angles. That should do it. If you buddy doesn't want to spend money on new water outlets, you can always use the universal-type hose that allows you bend it any way you need.

New outlets are a cleaner way to do it, but it's up to your buddy.

Good luck,

Tim

The best option, and perhaps your friend won't agree, the best option is to lose the third carburetor and go with just two carbs. That third carb won't make a big difference in performance. Two carb set up eliminates the generator/radiator hose problem and is plenty of carburetion for a street flathead.

Tim, He has the flex hoses on but such a nice looking engine with Offy heads and a nice hard plumbing to the carbs doesn't look good with Rube Goldberg plumbing. Thanks

An alternator will absolutely work with an Offy three carb manifold.
There's about 3/16" between the back of the alternator and the front of the carb.

It all depends on your taste I guess, I would think the flex hoses would look better than an alternator. I'm just not a fan of the look of an alternator on a flathead.

Offset water neck/thermostat housings are your real best bet.
Keep the three carbs, keep the generator, keep it all nice and proper looking.
You should be able to look through Google images for triple carb 8BA pictures, see what others have done to keep it all right.
Martin.

Thanks for all the comments. I think he will look into the 6 volt alternator.

We use a Denso alternator on a Edelbrock three carb intake. These are available from Amazon. Not sure if they make a 6V unit. WE made our own mounting bracket and mounts in front of the first carb with aprox 1/2 clearance. These run less than a 100 bucks.
