Re: another FNG (gal)
Is it that you were not a GI?
FNG was used in the movie Forrest Gump ... In Robert Zemeckis 's film Forrest Gump, the titular character (Tom Hanks) and his best friend Bubba ( Mykelti Williamson) are called FNGs by their commanding officer ( Gary Sinise) when they first arrive in Vietnam. I'm pretty sure FNG originated in the mulitary...At least it was a pretty common term when I was a GI back in the '60's...

though I can afford not to. Its a mindset that I can't get out of. And I am kind of frugal. My next door neighbor guy has a machine shop, builds a lot of cool stuff and he has lived in the area all of his life, so he is a great resource as to where to go for what. I have only lived in CO for about 3 years, so I am starting over as far as knowing who the local go-to ppl are. First thing is to make some room in my garage. I might have a bit of a hoarding problem. lol. I can't get rid of stuff, because, "you never know when I might need that" My friends roll their eyes and wonder how many extension cords, gas cans, buckets of bolts, jumper cables, come-a-longs one gal needs. I like your thoughts about just getting it safe and driveable before i go tearing into the depths of it. Its hard to not want to do it all at once, but as they say, Easy does it ! |

Not a GI. A Cold War Swabbie. The Navy gets the beans.
Edit: I mean gravy!

Julie,
Welcome to the forum! So much help and good folks here too. Awesome project you have. Keep the pictures coming! Your goal are similar to mine. Driveable and safe first. Your truck looks fine to me in its work clothes! Regards, Chris

Re: another FNG (gal)
Welcome to the Barn!...I have a collection of parts that hopefully one day will look like a ‘37 Commercial. I started work on a ‘51 Tudor a few years ago. The advise to enjoy it some without trying to make it perfect is good. I can say for certain that “project creep” is a very real thing. It’s turned into a real drawn out job but it needed a lot and I’ll be happy with it when it’s done. Good luck with your truck!.....Mark

Re: another FNG (gal)
I'll echo the advice to keep it looking the way it does and get it driving. My old 36 surprisingly way gets more attention at casual shows than megabuck cars exactly because it's pretty much untouched since leaving the farm. And I find it way more fun to drive this way. Don't be too quick to change the brakes, good condition mechanicals work pretty darn good themselves.
Neat truck, congrats! |

Re: another FNG (gal)
Maybe the Hamb should rekey that to F'n new gal. Neat truck! Congratulations!!!
Sometimes wonder why I went with a single hydraulic cylinder over good mechanical. Both have their advantages. Last edited by Tinker; 02-17-2022 at 02:20 AM. |

Re: another FNG (gal)
That’s a real nice truck you have there. Your fenders look to be in real good shape. At their age, most of the ones I have seen have been fixed by someone. I will have to agree with the others, get it safe and drive it. That’s what I did, most folks like it more than if it was all prettied up. Rust, booger welds and worn off paint have a certain charm. Enjoy the ride.
