54 Ford Victoria dual exhaust
I wish to put duals on my 54 Ford with 292 v-8 stick. I have a "loop tube" to convert it with a blockoff plate, but there is no room for the left pipe to clear the shift linkage, clutch linkage etc. I am told a 312 mleft manifold will do the trick. Does anyone know for sure? Is there a set of hedders that will work? What's the easiest way? Hardy <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Re: 54 Ford Victoria dual exhaust
I have a 54 conv. 239V8 stick. Investigated this swap for mine and found the 312 or 292 manifold too thick in the area where it turns down at the firewall.....it will not clear the shifter arms on column...may work on an auto with only one lever or floor conversion. If you see the proper manifold for the 54 V8 you can see it is slender in the area in question and definitly made to clear the shifter arms. The only thing I found that will work. More Mercurys in 54 had duals and used the same L/S manifold. <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Thanks, I appreciate your input. Does anybody have Mercury manifolds or some type of special hedder? <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Check with Reds Headers. He has shorty tube headers for the Y-blocks. <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

The 54 Ford Police package also had duals. There were 2 different style manifolds for the 292, thin and thick. I have a set of thin that came out of a 55 with the optional 292 4bbl/duals. They were also used on the 56. I dont know if the Merc 312 used the same ones. Ford went thick in 57. Problem is that they cracked easily so finding good ones may be hard. Try EBay. As mentioned, Reds Headers is an excellent choice <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |
