Then I notched the end to fit the outer body of the bushing nice and even and flush PLUS on old worn out bushings where the stud is not centered, it puts everything back in alignment and centered. I used it in my 20 ton shop press, had both bushings out in about 30 seconds.
Good idea!

Working on my own version of the BV-121 since they are thin on the ground (The RD-121) for the spindle side bushing. I will keep you posted!!

We just finished installing a Columbia in my 33. The new right side axle housing came without the spring shackle link stud. We used a 6” C clamp with appropriate size sockets to act as bushings. The new pins were.030 oversized or the housing was .030 undersized, a few hours of sanding and honing was necessary to get the proper fit.

.030" or .003"? Thirty thousandths may as well have been a mile.
I'm guessing but figure you meant three thousandths, not thirty.
The pins are designed oversize on purpose. That oversize / press fit is what introduces the torsional twist / rebound of the spring as engineered.
Sand the pins down and well, you might as well install a worn-out bushing. Worn out or "sanded down" pins do little more than hold the vehicle up.

I meant 30 thousands. Pressing the pin as is caused it to mushroom after about half way in, luckily we had two new pins to work with. We continually measured with a caliper as we went along.

Thirty? Where did you get the pins? That's nearly 1/32 of an inch.
How did you grind them down without going through the this metal shell?

We wrapped some sandpaper around a bolt and stuck it in the drill, honed out the housing bore. Hone, measure, hone, measure, etc until enough space to fit the pin.

Mike,

Perhaps he is using aftermarket studs, likely with rubber insulation rather than NOS ones with fabric insulation or not reaming out the debris in the axle housing.

On the other hand, there's no way you can maintain the correct alignment with a C clamp, unlike with a BV-121.
