Default Carburetor flow test measurement beaker

I have made a flow test stand for carburetor jet. I know someone on this site can tell me where and what size beaker in measurements to buy.

Thanks, Gary

You do not need a beaker. Get a gram scale. 1 gram of water is real close to 1 cc.

I prefer Bob’s gram scale idea. If you are fixed on some kind of volumetric device, try a shop that sells wine and beer making supples sand ask for a graduated cylinder.

Gary, you need something that we used to use in high school chemistry class called a 100 ml Graduated Cylinder. They make them in plastic now (don't break so easily). When you measure a jet, measure it 3 times and average the results.

Here's an example from Amazon for $10:

Gary,

cc = cubic centimeter
ml = milliliter
gr = gram

For your purposes 1 cc = 1 ml = 1 gram

Many of the jets flow more than 100 ml per minute. A 100 ml graduated cylinder would not hold 1 minutes of water for some jets. You could measure for 30 or even 15 seconds and multiply the number by 2 or 4. I found that a gram scale is more accurate, easier to read and easier to use.

Here is a link to one on ebay;

If you want accuracy then go with gravimetric measurement. The problem with vomumetric measurement is that it is reliant on the variability of human line of sight, which can vary from one human to another and at different episodes of measurement.
The use of a large volume beaker amplifies the variation.

I have been using the 100ml Graduated Cylinder (as Jim Cannon stated} for measuring the idle jets and use the 250ml (also available for about $11 from Amazon) to measuring the other jets.

Why is flow tested better than just measuring the actual size of the jet?

Because it tells you the actual amount of liquid that will flow through the jet under specific conditions. That's what Zenith did to confirm the flow of the new jets back in the day. See attached example blueprint with both dimensions and target flow rate specified.

There is more controlling the flow through a jet than just the diameter at the smallest point. Flow testing gives you the total picture.
