Default Holly 94

Would anyone know how my carburetor a Holly 94/59 in my 1948 Ford 2dr would react if my power valve was not working. Car is hard to start and will not idle.Johna

From personal experience, if a power valve has failed and is leaking it can cause the float bowl to empty into the intake manifold making the car difficult to start if the car has been sitting for a while, meaning the fuel pump needs to refill the float bowl before the engine will start.

Another scenario is that it can cause a flooded engine condition after being shut off for only a few minutes and then attempting to restart it.

If the diaphragm in the power valve is old and no longer pliable, it can cause a lack of power under hard acceleration due to the fact that it is not opening as it should to provide the additional fuel needed to accelerate.

You mentioned it would not idle - the power valve could have some affect on idle if the power valve is leaking badly enough, but under normal circumstances, the power valve doesn't come into play as it pertains to engine idle.

As Mcgarrett said, if the power valve is leaking it will cause a rich running and bad idle. The do go bad from time to time. It's an easy fix.

I can't remember his name, but there is a man on here who specializes in Holly 94 carbs among other things. He can match a replacement power valve to your car including any modifications you may have done to the engine. Somebody will come up with his name.
