SPRING in New Zealand
We are into the 2nd week of Spring, took the 34 for a drive, and here she is parked at the observation point, overlooking the Benmore Dam. At one time, and may still be, the largest earth dam in the southern hemisphere.

Via Lewis Pass through Reefton to first nights stop at an old historic town of Blackball. Pics show an old house of the area now used as a community centre. Publican had the 46 jailbar at Blackball Hilton pub and departure accompanied us down to Greymouth. The Tree Top walkway is a recent added attraction just south of Hokitika. Unit build in Australia and reassembled in New Zealand. Walkway amongst native trees etc. 20 metres above ground and tower is 40 metres above ground. Last shots are where we stayed at Ross at another historic pub the Empire which has just been redone on the outside. A true character West Coast pub which had whitebait on the evening meal. Great to taste this new season treat. Publican at this pub had a couple of cars which he took us to see. The 39 deluxe coupe is awaiting restoration, he has owned it since he was 16 yrs, purchased for $75.00. The 38 Deluxe is a runner all original. And he has a 36 Chev sedan, no pic taken. Also in this town is a great collection of motor bikes collected over 30 yrs. Mainly Triumph and Nortons. One extremely early Norton valued around $200.000.00. Also some speedway bikes, with a famous one belonging to Ivan Maguer. Plan is to build a purpose built museum across from the pub to displayall these bikes and cars etc. A truely iconic small town, Ross, with heaps of history dating back to gold rush of the time. Enjoy the pics. Its good to go to these places and rediscover history from the past. Phil NZ |

Re: SPRING in New Zealand
I've been in Sydney when the 'All Blacks' came through - was quite the match and spectacle in the pubs afterwards. Just listening to the cadence they sung on the way back through the streets was worth it! LOL (It was not for women and children to hear if yah now what I mean. ).
