Default Improve Your radiator Drain Petcock

Got tired of the mess when draining 40 Ford Griffin radiator. Soldered piece of 3/8 copper tubing with ferrule to petcock. Ferrule provides better bonding area for solder. Slide on 3/8 rubber hose before draining to avoid mess all over 40 drain pan sheet metal piece.

If this was twenty years ago I might have considered doing the same thing but instead I picked up a Dorman petcock that has the tube already installed.

Opps! Never knew such a petcock existed. Thanks.
Thought I was going to get rich on Shark Tank with
my new and improved petcock.

The Dorman 61105 has a 1/8 pipe thread.
The Dorman 61106 has a 1/4 pipe thread and is most likely the one that fits.

I like the idea; the stock one is too short to hold the hose securely. I already have the ferrule, copper tube, and some solder so I can still make one a lot cheaper than $4.00. It's more fun, too! (As you can see, I have evolved into my "puttering" stage.)

Another idea - this is a marine drain valve that I use on my blocks and the radiator drain. You can put a hose over this one like was mentioned above. All you need is a 9/16 wrench to open it And it's all brass so it won't rust like the "butterfly" on the drain. Available in boat supply stores and ebay.
