Who is Running What
I'm at a point that I need to order a new head for my completely rebuilt "B" motor. It has a full flow oil system (seen in another thread), inserted bearings, lightened flywheel, Chevy vales. adjustable lifter and re-sleeved back to STD bore. I have a Burns single 2 barrel down draft for intake and I believe a Winfield cam. Will probably be adding 3:78.1 gears to the rear in the future. My decision is to either run a Snyder 5.5 head or a Brumfield 5.9 head. Who has what and what are the pros and cons of each? Not racing, just a good reliable motor.
This should be interesting? |

Re: Who is Running What
Brumfield unless you know where to get one is out of the question. so looks like the Snyder is whats available today, Larry is not doing them due to the economy.

Re: Who is Running What
Did you mean 3.27 ring and pinion?
3.78 is the standard ring and pinion. |

Re: Who is Running What
I believe that the Snyder 5.5 and 6 to 1 compression heads are the only stock appearing higher compression cast iron heads that are now avaiulable. Charley Yapp sells a cast iron head in 6 to 1 and 7 to 1 but it has fins and the spark plugs on the drivers side.

Re: Who is Running What
Snyder 6:1, you could take some meat off the bottom for even better performance although my choice would be a Winfield.

Re: Who is Running What
I run a no longer available BF 5.9 head, antique cast iron Trojan dual updraft manifold with model B carbs and a super street Winfield 3/4 race cam. I run a model B flywheel, gutted muffler and a flame thrower coil. I run original 3.78 gears
