Default Squeak noise in clutch

I have a new noise that happens only at idle. It sounds like a loud intermittent squeak. It becomes continuous when the clutch is depressed. It hasn't been long since I greased the throughout bearing. The bearing was replaced when the transmission was rebuilt 20 years ago and has very few miles on it. The noise goes completely away when the engine is revved up.

Any ideas?

Hi Henry,

If you use a flash light after removing the floor mat & the clutch housing cover, you may "see" what you hear.

Also, never a bad idea to initially "observe" the throw out bearing after initial reassembly of a transmission ............. and later after lubricating same ....... to insure it is not rotating constantly; hence causing premature wear.

The throw out bearing should rotate "only" when the clutch pedal is depressed.

If one has nothing to do all day long, and one wants to change throw out bearings often ................ just use your clutch pedal for a foot rest and partially depress your clutch pedal ........ works every time.

As the clutch disc wears, the fingers will move back towards the throw-out bearing. You have probably reached the point where the clutch fingers are touching the bearing. You may try adjusting your trunion bolt to gain some clearance. Simple first...check that your clutch pedal is returning fully.
Good Day!

I have a squeak in my clutch also, I think it is the pilot bearing. I had my car in my driveway and it is on a slope, the motor was not running, I put my foot on the clutch and started to roll backwards. I heard the squeak. I am pretty sure the pilot bearing is making the noise
