Default Control Cable

I'm trying to locate a control cable to use to shift my overdrive and you'd think I could find one at any auto parts or hardware store. Not so. It has to be capable of 3 1/2 inches of movement from full in to full out position. Seems all the stuff I can find will travel 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Any ideas? We don't have a tractor parts or truck parts place for 30 miles. I thought this would be at my local auto parts but been to three and two hardware stores that mostly give me a blank stare. Any online clues. I can find them but none I found tell me what the travel length is. I don't want to have to make a bell crank and add another feature to this O/D.

Thanks,
Dave Mc Arthur (frustrated)

I recently bought a cable shifter for one of my Mitchell O/Ds. When I used it, I liked it and decided to organise one for another car. By the time I bought one from Mitchell and got it here, it would have cost waaay too much. A little research and I found the local subsidiary of an American company who did it for me. I made a copy of Mitchell the lever mechanism.
Try looking up TGA Cables. Not sure if that is the name they use over there but the cable I got was identical to the Mitchell one.
Good luck and please report back.

What about looking into any control cables for outboards? They would probably have the range but not sure if any would be available at a decent length that's not too long for your purposes.

What you are looking for is a custom 'morse' or 'teleflex' cable

BobC, Thanks, I ordered it. Shipping is about as much as the item, but I spent three hours driving from promising spot to promising spot and came up empty. This appears to be good quality and had the right amount of travel, and more if I need it. Should be here Sat. Oct 7. If it does that I will try it out on Sunday when we do about a hundred plus mile tour. I know it will be fine,
What a site. Ask and ye shall receive.
