Default OD solinoid

Anyone had any experience using a 6 volt solinoid with a 12 volt system?

I,be heard you can with a voltage reducer. It's "hot" whenever it's running though so I don't think the thing will last long running it on 12v.

12 volts on a 6 volt OD solenoid will last a long time (years). Forget the resistor.
I have been doing this for several years.

I had a solenoid rebuilder in MN tell me they weren't voltage sensitive, except when you try to use a 12v on a 6v.

I've been running 12 volts through a 6 volt solenoid for over a year......no issues yet. Randy Rundle from Fifth Ave. Auto, who wrote a book on the 12 volt conversion, said it wouldn't be an issue. Isn't for me.

Sorry..just re-read this, I was referring to starter solenoid, not OD. My apologies.....
