Default period correct aftermarket tach

What would be a correct "hot rod" tach from the mid to late 40's? Looking to discretely add one to the truck. Pics would be great if possible.

The old Sun tachs come to mind. The electronic ones were pretty convoluted back then, and required a black box to drive them. You'd pay a pretty penny for one now, they are collector's items (I'm thinking $300+). I had one back in the '60's and it wasn't very reliable back then.

Back in the 71 I got one of those Sun tach with the big black box. It didn't work so called Sun, They said send it to them and they would send me a new one, they did no charge. It worked fine in a 53 rag top with a 286 in it. Walt

Mid to late 40's would probably be Stewart Warner mechanical cable drive with angle crank drive adapter. I think electric Sun came out after that period. Ray

jump over to the hamb and do a search for sun tachs, the old aircraft like suns would be pretty period correct..
Heres a cool one correct with 5000 rpm for the flathead on ebay right now. pretty cheap as well. there are rebuilders out there ...

I found this 5K Sun "Football" tach on eBay, and had the sending unit converted to solid state so it doesn't need batteries.

May I ask who converted your tach? I'm considering the same with my Sun tach.

Once you used the word "correct" you eliminate all that later model electronic stuff centered on Sun. The one blownflatheaddeuce posted would be appropriate however.

More show and tell, here's my late '40s style stuff in the '30 roadster as beerray enumerated, including a pic of the right angle drive unit from the crank mount.
