Haggery X 2 , I had Condon & Skelly also for 10 plus yrs. I wanted to take my vehicles to another house I have w no garage & keep there for a couple weeks @ a time but it does have off street parking for several cars. C&S said no, gotta have a garage, called Hagerty & they said no prob & as Tubman said I got a rate significantly lower from them!

I've used Grundy for 20+ years with no problems. Have had as many as 6 High end cars with them at once. Never had a claim so have no experience with that.

I have been using Hagerty for years and currently have seven cars and a trailer with them. I have never had a claim but have added and deleted many cars over the years and they have always been very easy to deal with that way.

Insurance is regulated at the state level which may affect comparisons.

Been with Hagerty many years, no claims. I pay 400.00 a year for my fleet of 4 jailbar trucks. I also add and delete with some regularity, but the best part is very high quality bi-monthly magazine.

Also remember that the various names cited are insurance agents, not the companies actually doing the insuring. In my case, nearly sixty years of complete satisfaction with J.C. Taylor.

I have found that JC TAYLOR rates are much higher that Haggerty.

I have had Grundy for years. Had two claims with them on my two '40 fords from earthquake damage. Adjuster promptly showed up gave an estimate and they sent me a check that covered the damage on both cars. They are now owned by Philadelphia Insurance Company. After they took over I did have one problem as they failed to notify the state of California that I had insurance on my cars. The state held up my registration tags. One call to Grundy and the problem was resolved quickly. I think their rates are very reasonable.

I had Condon & Skelly for over 30 years without a problem or a claim. I couldn't find anyone who had any experience in filing a claim with them, which made me kinda nervous. After a little research, I tried Hagerty, because they seemed to have a very good record servicing claims. I got a quote from them that was literally half of what I had been paying with C&S. I looked over the coverage for a couple of weeks, and when I couldn't find any deficiencies with Hagerty, I switched. So far, so good.

So, you guys that like your company but never had a claim...so the company was super good at invoicing you and accepting payment? I digress.

I cancelled my policy with Hagerty this year. Had them for over 20 years and then they tried to screw me.

Story in a nutshell:
Bought policy for a quoted price.
Added another car after a few years...price went up as expected.
Went to cancel 2nd car after selling it....price went up again.
Called to inquire why...they said because I lost my multi-car discount.
Told them to go jump off a bridge and cancelled my policy.

Yes, they jacked the rate after removing a car. Lost "multi-car discount"? Then why did my policy go up when I added the car, and went up even more when I removed it? They just kept repeating "multi-car discount", as if they had no ability to comprehend what I was asking.

It has to do with the amount of exposure to hazards. You are not driving both cars at the same time. One is usually in the garage. Therefore they give you a discount rate on each car based on the fact that there is less exposure to either car. Once you sold a car, now you are driving just one car more often and it is now exposed to more potential hazards. So rates go back up. Most companies will also do that if you have two family cars and one is used less often than the other.

You missed the point entirely. The price went up when I added the second car. The price then went up again when I removed it. That makes sense to you?

I use American Collector insurance. it's a stated value policy. One claim 20 years ago and they paid without any problems. If you can live with their restrictions, pleasure driving, parades, club functions, must be garaged, no restaurant parking and mileage limits it's very inexpensive.
If you are going to use your vehicle for everyday, I would go with something more conventional and not chance them rejecting a claim.

Folks,
Was ready to push the button with Haggerty. I mentioned the truck would be used in my Business as a advertising unit. There was a pause on the other end and they very politely said Mr. Casbohm we won't be able to help you! I have coverage with Erie insurance which also has all my other vehicles and toys.
Regards,
Chris

I agree with sugarmaker. I insured with Hagarty because I did not think I had any real choice when it came to my c-750 COE car hauler. They would insure me but would not insure it to tow. Except for the occasional load they also would not let me put anything on it except my own collector/classic cars. I had an opportunity to pick up 2 Ford cars about 90 miles from my house. The COE and a trailer was the obvious way to go. I went with Shelter Insurance Company after a suggestion from a fellow hot rodder. I cancelled my policy for three vehicles with Hagerty. I got a slightly better policy, agreeing also to insure my daily driver. No restrictions on any (except the obvious - racing). They only operate in 15 states but, my COE now does COE things and still wins at car shows!

Discussions about insurance companies get my blood boiling! I don't like insurance companies and I think in trying to minimize their risk they take advantage of us. That being said, I had Hagerty for over 15 years, had what I thought were reasonable premiums and I thought their rules for driving my car were fair. Then 2 years ago (2021) my premium went up about 40% in one year. I had never had a claim and drive my car on average about 100 miles a year. I called to complain but to no avail so I switched to Grundy. My new premium with Grundy was less than what I paid with Hagerty in 2020. This is my second year with Grundy and my premium went up about 10%. I hope it levels off in the coming years.
